BUILDING A GYM

From warehouse to gym in six months

After many months of planning came an exciting stage of the birth of 1066 Gymnastics as construction work began on an empty warehouse unit in Brett Drive, Bexhill.

During a six month development, the warehouse was split into two levels. A staircase and lift comprised a small extension to the side of the unit to grant access to the upper level. The entire length of the upper level would house the gym with suspended pits while downstairs would be split into four commercial units.

Once this major renovation of the building was completed the designs for the gymnastics training area began to come to life as holes in the ground started to look like homes for foam filled pits and a sunken trampoline. Various pieces of equipment started to arrive, forklifted through a huge hole in the floor which would become a pit. Once all the equipment was in place, the hole was closed and the pit was finished.

Everything came together in the final few weeks as paint and light fixtures went up and the final mat covers went on. At the end of March 2009 the gym was almost finished.
